Professor Dr ANDREW BURN will focus on multimodal literacy in the context of media arts education in the UK. He will present examples from recent research studies which show dynamic relationships between modes such as oral language, visual design, music and dramatic action in young people's production of animations and videogames. Such literacies, and the cultural values which accompany them, demand new approaches to our conceptions of literacy, our curricular policies, and our pedagogies.

Prof Dr ADRIANA BUS will talk about the advantages of digitized picture storybooks enriched with motion pictures, sound and music for mother tongue education in kindergarten. Based on her research she will argue that, for the purpose of learning early literacy skills, technology-enhanced books may be as helpful as scaffolding by an adult and for some children even more helpful.
