Young Composers Lab
The Young Composers Lab (YCL) takes place since 2013 and was established together with the Tallinn University former Institute of Fine Arts first KIMP festival. In 2013 the YCL took place in the institute's former Lai street chamber concert hall, in 2014 in the TLU Astra building Scientist Forum. In 2015 it was organized within the KIMP festival together with the KUMU art museum Museum night (coordinator Kumu audience program curator Mary-Ann Talvistu) which was a big event attracting more than 3500 visitors.
The YCL is really a lab concert where compositions by the former Department of Music music and sound design curriculae (basics of musical composition, sound design seminarwork) students as well as their short film music sound designs are presented but also pop/rock music student band performances, since 2014 also the award winning pieces of the Digital Composition Contest winners.
Initiator and main organizer of the YCL is musicology lecturer, composer and musician Gerhard Lock, co-organizer sound design module head, lecturer and musician Avo Ulvik. In 2015 an important part in organizing had the students of Basics of musical composition Katri Lotamõis (schedule design, assistant), Markus Fiut (transport of instruments), and Kristjan Peik (technical assistant). Assistant of the YCL 2015 winter concert is the music bachelor student (first course elder and sounddesign modul elder) Inge Jegorenkov.
