Description of the programme

Digital Library Learning (DILL) is a two-year international master’s programme for elite information professionals to provide them with the skills and competencies necessary to navigate through the rapidly evolving world of digital libraries. It is offered in cooperation between Tallinn University (Estonia) and the University of Parma (Italy). Students will spend at least one semester at each institution.

The first semester starts with a summer school in Tallinn, Estonia. The first semester is provided both by Tallinn University and University of Parma and the students can choose the place to stay according to their preferences or follow the courses online. For the second semester, students are in Tallinn, Estonia.The third semester contains a second summer school, and takes place in Parma, Italy. Students will also do an international internship during this time. In the fourth semester students can choose to write their Master Thesis at one of the partner institutions, depending on the subject of the thesis and the location of the student’s main supervisor.

Opportunities after graduation

The course is designed to prepare information professionals who have or will have responsibility for managing digital conversion programs and/or implementing digital libraries and conducting digital library education programs. The graduates have the skills necessary to function in the complex world of digital libraries in different sectors of society.

Prerequisite requirements
  • Completed Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent
  • Proof of English Proficiency
  • Knowledge and skills with computers for information use.
  • Statement of purpose in English (i.e. motivation, subject of interest, plans for study)
  • 1-3 reference letter
  • Interview with the admission committee - the admission interview is a part of the application process and can be taken in February and in March. Interview is carried out via Skype, applicant does not have to come to Estonia.
