Allowance for Doctoral Students

An eligible candidate for the allowance for doctoral students has to be admitted in 2017 and is a citizen of Estonia or staying in Estonia as a long-term resident or has a temporary residence permit and has not exceeded the nominal duration of studies. Doctoral students will receive the allowance at the beginning of the first year of studies to the end of the nominal duration of studies. The amount of part-time doctoral students allowance is half of the full sum of the doctoral allowance. The amount of the allowance for doctoral students is determined every year in accordance with the general state budget. In 2017 the allowance for doctoral students is approximately 422 € per month. Working during doctoral studies does not affect the right to receive the allowance.

In addition to the allowance, doctoral students can receive a scholarship as well if the institute has the necessary means or if the student is involved in science and development projects with external funding that covers the scholarship.
