In addition to what will be an exciting and diverse academic programme, NGM2015 offers a range of mid-conference field trips organised and run by Estonian geographers. All tours start in Tallinn (pick-up at the main conference hotels) at 9 AM (if not stated otherwise) and end in Tartu around 5 PM. For the tours in and around Tartu transport from Tallinn (same departure time) is organised and your guide will join you in Tartu.
We are also delighted to announce that three post-conference field trips will be available. Accompanying guests are welcome to attend all the field trips (mid-conference tours are included in the conference participant/ accompanying guest fee; post-conference trips are at extra cost per person). All post-conference trips will start in Tartu on 20 June 2015 and end in Tallinn, except for the Setomaa trip which will return to Tartu with recommended overnight stay there.
Both St John's day (24 June) and especially its eve (23 June) in Estonia contain a particularly rich choice of traditions and rites which are considered to bring good luck in private life. We invite you to join in the festivities as a start to your summer holidays. The Estonian Open Air Museum at Rocca al Mare has a full programme of Midsummer celebration activities, public events are organised all around the country, or you might be invited to a more private celebration – at this time of the year, Estonians are exceptionally sociable.
