Conference 'Europe in Hard Times – What's to be Done?'
On 8th and 9th February 2018 Tallinn University will host an exceptional academic conference “Europe in Hard Times – What's to be Done?”
The aim of the conference is to promote a sophisticated debate on a subject that is fundamental for our time: the shape and the content of European integration.
The conference will discuss the future of Europe, revise the over positive narrative about European integration and pause and ask what is to be done, if we want to maintain on the one side the civilizing process introduced by the European integration and on the other side keep some control on our public life and our destiny as workers and citizens.
The conference is organized by Tallinn University School of Governance, Law and Society and will take place at Tallinn University auditorium Maximus, A-002 and its working language is English.
The conference will host a highly prestigious pool of scholars among whom are Giandomenico Majone – Emeritus Professor from the European University Institute, Renaud Dehousse - President of European University Institute, Chris Bickerton from the University of Cambridge, Hauke Brunkhorst from the University of Flensburg, Christian Joerges from the Hertie School of Governance, John Erik Fossum from the University of Oslo, Agustin Menéndez – Editor of the European Law Journal, Rein Müllerson from Tallinn University, Pavlos Eleftheriadis from University of Oxford, Massimo La Torre - Professor in Philosophy of Law at the Law School of Magna Graecia University in Catanzaro, Italy, and a Visiting Professor of European Law at the Tallinn University, Fritz W. Scharpf - Emeritus Director of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Socities, Dieter F. Grimm from Humboldt University in Berlin and Yale Law School, Andrew Moravcsik from Princeton University and Siim Kallas - former European Comissioner and former Prime Minister of Estonia.
Their presentations and debate will offer an enrichment of comprehension and enlargement of perspectives about present predicament and the future prospects of European Union.
