18TH WORLD CONFERENCE SPONSORED BY THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL
FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION (ICDE) - "THE NEW LEARNING ENVIRONMENT: A GLOBAL
PERSPECTIVE", PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY, USA (2-6 June 1997)
The rapid evolution of digital technology is changing the fabric of life
throughout the world. It has created a new learning environment designed
to help learners develop the skills needed to thrive in an information age.
The 18th World Conference of the International Council for Distance Education
will explore the challenges and opportunities facing the global educational
community in this new environment.
The conerence, one of the main international events in open and distance
education, offers a tremendous variety of presentations on open and distance
education in the world.
The conference will focus on the following themes:
- The Changing Technological Environment
- The New Educational Paradigm
- Technology, Education and Sustainable Development
- Opportunities for International Cooperation
