The meeting of the representatives of the designed TEMPUS Project "Information Management Education for the Baltic States" took place in Riga on January 23 - 25 this year.
The project is coordinated by Riga Business School and Riga Technical University - the representative Ms. Zina Viskere supported by visiting Professor Ms. Hannah Khayyat and Assistant Dean for Administration of Riga Business School Mr. Samuel R. Bruce, Jr., Department of Information Studies of the University of Sheffield - representative Professor Tom Wilson, Faculty of Communication of the Vilnius University - representative Professor Elena Maceviciute, Faculty of Engineering of the Oporto University - representative Doctor Ana Azavedo, Department of Library Studies of the University of Latvia - representative Doctor Baiba Sporane, Management Consultancy and Auditing Company InvestRiga - representative Mr. Armands Tols, Library of the Medical Academy of Latvia - representative Ms. Inara Lejniece and the Department of Information Studies of the Tallinn Pedagogical University - representative Ms. Sirje Virkus are the participating institutions in this Project.
The Project is designed in such a way that it will provide each partner institution with modular programs which can be used for academic and non-academic participants. Also, the Information Management degree programs to be instituted at Riga Technical University, Vilnius University and Tallinn Pedagogical University will be recognized by each university and will allow for credit transfer between each institution.
The Project creates the opportunity to develop inter and intra-country cooperation in restructuring courses to suit several disciplines and creates the opportunity to help faculty members to work across institutions and hence an economical framework for financial side of introducing new courses.
The representatives had also the pleasure of listening to the lecture given by Professor Tom Wilson at Riga Business School on January 23 and to visit the National Library of Latvia. The Director of the National Library of Latvia Mr. Andris Vilks introduced the Library and talked about the present situation and the future plans of the Library.
