The culturally interwoven and rapidly changing technological world, also challenges the organisation of Estonian society and the country as a whole. A smart and knowledge-based policy is required to cope with environmental changes, the interconnection of geopolitical conflicts with information technology and the media industry, development of the Estonian cultural sphere in the conditions of openness and globalization, along with many other tasks. A small country can be more flexible and innovative under these circumstances than others, it can react faster to the challenges of the 21st century and assume a leading role in the effective organisation of its society. A small country can assert itself by implementing intelligent lifestyle at individual, societal and state level. An intelligent lifestyle involves lifelong learning and knowledge-based life organisation; evidence-based and informed decision-making, with an open and coherent development of the society.
Tallinn University has the leading role in promoting and developing an intelligent lifestyle in Estonia, thus supporting both Estonian sustainability, as well as self-actualization of individuals.
