Information for graduates

Dear Graduate!

NB! The graduation ceremonies will take place outdoors in any weather. The front attic of the Nova house has been prepared for the graduates.

Congratulations on a big day and for this great achievement! 
Our goal is to organise your graduation ceremony as smoothly and safely as possible. For that, please read the instructions for the event.

All graduation ceremonies take place in front of the Nova building (Narva road 27). During the ceremony, the graduates sit in front of the Nova building under the roof. Academic staff and visitors may find a place to sit in the inner courtyard square.

We start gathering 15 minutes before the ceremony in front of the Vita building. If it rains, then we'll gather at the Vita lobby. There you will be greeted by the academic staff who give instructions for lining up and helps to store personal belongings during the ceremony. They will also hand you the "Gaudeamus" lyrics. 

To maintain security, we ask each graduate to invite a maximum of two relatives to the event. We kindly ask everyone in the COVID-19 risk groups not to attend the graduation ceremony. Graduates, who can't attend, can get their diplomas from their school's study counsellor. 

Presentation of Diplomas for Bachelor's Degree Graduates:
  • Lined up correctly, graduates walk to the area in front of the Nova building, find themselves a seat and remain standing in front of their seat.
  • The ceremony starts with the anthem of the Republic of Estonia.
  • The host greets the graduates, staff and visitors and congratulates the graduates.
  • The host starts naming full names of the graduates, who after hearing their names walk up to the Director of the School, who hands graduates their diplomas
  • The graduate gives a signature
  • The graduate will be handed a flower after which the graduate reutrns to their seat.
  • There will be no handshake.
Presentation of Diplomas for Master's degree graduates:
  • Lined up correctly, graduates walk to the area in front of the Nova building, find themselves a seat and remain standing in front of their seat.
  • The ceremony starts with the anthem of the Republic of Estonia.
  • The host greets the graduates, staff and visitors and congratulates the graduates.
  • The host starts naming full names of the graduates, who after hearing their names walk up to the Rector who hands graduates their diplomas
  • The Director of the School congratulates the graduate
  • The graduate gives a signature
  • The graduate will be handed a flower after which the graduate reutrns to their seat.
  • There will be no handshake.
The ending of the ceremony and photoshoot
  • The ceremony ends with singing "Gaudeamus"
  • After "Gaudeamus", the graduates have a seat 
  • The host says their finals thank you words and invites graduates to take pictures course by course on Nova stairs. When the picture is taken, the graduates move to the yard to receive their congratulations and the next course is called our for the ceremony.

Information for visitors

Dear Visitor!

NB! Due to the extreme weather forecast, we offer visitors the opportunity to watch the ceremonies live on the large screen of the ceremonial hall of the Terra building (T-328).

You are welcome to congratulate your relatives for graduating Tallinn University at our graduation ceremonies. Our goal is to organise graduation ceremonies as smoothly and safely as possible. For that, we kindly ask maximum two relatives per one graduate to join the ceremony. We ask everyone in the COVID-19 risk groups not to attend the graduation ceremony.

The graduation ceremonies take place in front of the Nova building (Narva road 27). The graduates sit in front of the Nova building and the roof, academic staff and visitors can find a seat in the inner courtyard square, where there there are only counted number of chairs. For that, visitors must be prepared to standing during the ceremony.

All ceremonies will be live broadcasted and can be watched from Tallinn University homepage, our Youtube channel, from the TVs located all around the campus and from a big screen at the Astra lobby. 

The Bachelor's degree ceremonies last approximately 1,5 hours, Master's ceremonies 1 hour. Ceremonies start with the entrance of the Rector or Director, academic staff and the graduates and end with singing "Gaudeamus". During the entrance, we ask visitors to stand up. The congratulations of the graduates takes place in the courtyard. 
 

Those who graduate later due to the state of emergency will get their diplomas at the graduation ceremony that takes place in Autumn. We will publish more detailed information on the Autumn's ceremony on August. In case anyone chooses to get their diplomas beforehand, then all diplomas are issued one month after the end of studies from their school's study counsellor.
