VITAOFFERSSPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES
The new building of Tallinn University, named Vita as the result of a com- petition, combines sound and image, art and music, dancing and sports.
Sports
The large sports hall is used primarily by the university for educational purposes, teaching basketball and volleyball, but also for teaching subjects of athletic excellence, which are offered to students from all institutes.
The Tallinn University representative teams are playing to win: the female basketball team targeting the Estonian championship title, the female volleyball team leading the first league, the female volleyball team relying on young players and possibly Tallinn Kalev/TU playing in the championship league.
There are certainly open times in the sports hall during the weekends or in the morning for those interested outside the university. There is a big and fully equipped gym in the Vita building, in which training equipment and functionaltrain- ing assisting devices are waiting to be used.
Art and music
The new Vita building enables the results of creative projects to be presented in galleries as well as on screens throughout several floors. The Vita representative gallery on the first floor is special due to the view of the courtyard of the new campus, which has a new look and feel. We have the works of students and lecturers on dis- play there as well as archival materials. We are also expecting exhibition offers from outside.
For students of integrated arts and music, the new building offers bright and inspiring work areas on three floors. Portable furniture and digital screens allow you to work on a variety of projects and a state-of-the-art studio allows you to take a classical drawing or painting course.
During the off-school hours, studios can be booked by other Tallinn University courses and
Dancing
Vita building offers the best conditions in Estonia for learning dance: two big dance halls with re- silient floors, a black box equipped with technical equipment and a break room. All of this provides an opportunity to create a special atmosphere and practise dance techniques, as students from differ- ent creative disciplines learn and act side by side. The audience is also welcome in the building; one reason to come is the KorFest Weekend.
The building
The architectural project was created by Salto arhitektuuribüroo OÜ, the architects are Maarja Kask, Ralf Lõoke, Kaisa Simon and Pelle-Sten Viiburg. Projected by Sweco Projekt AS, general contractor AS Ehitustrust.
With the opening of Vita’s four ground floors and surface area of 4000 m2, the Tallinn Univer- sity campus is ready at its best. Even though the campus stretches from Narva highway to Uus- Sadama, you can access and go through the whole campus when entering from the Terra, Astra, Silva, Mar, Nova or Vita buildings. It is time travel in some sense, since the age differ- ence between the oldest building Terra and the newest building Vita is exactly 80 years.
The courtyard
With the completion of the new building, a fresh look was given to the courtyard. In place of a car park, there is now an aesthetic and creative environment, which will be further decorated with a work of art by Oliver Soom- ets and Magnus Andre, whose design is called “Ainult filmis ja pildiraamatus” (Only in film and picture book).
