Knowledge Management Foundations

This Learning Object "Framework for Knowledge Management Tools and Projects" describes information and knowledge management solutions, which refer to the variety of ways in which information and knowledge management can be facilitated.

Information management focuses on the effective management of information. Knowledge management is described in this learning object as a strategy for creating an environment that encourages using, generating, sharing, and exploiting knowledge.

Knowledge Management solutions include two components:

  • Knowledge Management processes and
  • Knowledge Management systems.

Knowledge Management solutions depend on three foundations:

  • Knowledge Management infrastructure
  • Knowledge Management mechanisms
  • Knowledge Management technologies.
