Team
The core team of Science kitchen is three home economics lecturers from Tallinn University. Their professional education is in educational sciences, and therefore they know how to manage the learning processes according to the different levels of learners.
Jaana Taar (Head of Science Kitchen), PhD. Associate professor of home economics
Jaana has more than 20 years of teaching experience, in recent years she has also gained experience in project management. She has defended her doctorate in educational sciences at the University of Helsinki, focusing her research on students' interthinking in home economics group work activities. Over the years, she has participated in further training for subject teachers and supervised various thematic workshops.
Kristi Paas, PhD. Lecturer of home economics theory and didactics
Kristi's teaching field is versatile, covering the topics of consumer education and trends related to food and nutrition. Her field of research is home economics didactics; in her doctoral thesis, she focused on home economics teacher education and the professional development of students learning to become teachers. For over 20 years, in addition to training students, she has conducted advanced training for subject teachers and supervised various practical workshops.
Tiina Vänt, MA. Teacher of Food technology
Tiina has obtained a master's degree in educational sciences at the University of Helsinki and a home economics teacher's qualification. She has 20 years of experience in adult education and during the last 10 years she has also worked as a primary school teacher. In addition, she supervises several food technology workshops as part of advanced training.
In addition to the core team, we work closely with other lecturers and researchers of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Health (physicists, chemists, microbiologists, geologists, etc.). The Science Kitchen team cooperates with two cooperation clusters in Tallinn University - the KEKO cluster for adapting to environmental changes and mitigating their effects, and the STEAM4EDU cooperation cluster for interdisciplinary educational innovation.
