Daniel Tröhler (Professor of Department of Education, University of Vienna) will critically discuss the issue that many ideologies and concepts which have gained dominance in educational research actually have their roots in religion or other disciplines, and are unconsciously and without a sufficient historical analysis, adopted in modern educational discourse. This trend has led to an unquestioned culture of 'datafication' and evidence-based research and practice.

Tröhler specifically highlights the major shifts in educational research after the World War II to the technocratic and expertocratic culture and then to the to a biologisation and medicalisation, the latter development meaning that educational research is increasingly dominated by the discourse and concepts dominant in medical sciences. This trend distorts and biases what is actually fundamental and necessary in educational research.
