Research Strand Four: Language Resources in Estonian Sign Language Research
The fourth line of research, related to linguistic resources, serves as a platform for both academic linguistic research and community language use. The creation of a linguistic resources platform is a crucial first step in ensuring the accessibility of sign language products developed through research and utilized within the sign language Deaf communities.
Current Projects
Signbank 2.0. for Estonian Sign Language
This project builds on the Estonian tradition of lexicographic work on Estonian Sign Language and makes a significant contribution with the introduction of the new Signbank 2.0 for Estonian Sign Language. The aim of Signbank 2.0 is to serve as a database for signs in Estonian Sign Language, along with a range of linguistic data, including lexical, phonological, and other information. In collaboration with the Estonian Language Institute, Signbank 2.0 will become part of the linguistic resources available for the study of Estonian Sign Language. The results will provide a robust and reliable foundation for further lexicographic and linguistic research, accessible to sign language users and professionals both in Estonia and abroad.
