Europe's rural areas are facing social, demographic, economic and environmental pressures due to global changes and crises. The aim of SERIGO is to generate evidence-based theoretical and practical knowledge on how the social and solidarity economy can support resilience, social inclusion and well-being in rural Europe. Building on the research findings, it aims to provide insights and recommendations on the framework conditions and policy arrangements needed to promote the sector, and to trigger constructive debate and cooperation involving a wide range of stakeholders in Europe. The project will apply an intersectional perspective on vulnerability, as well as implementing Critical systems thinking combined with community-based participatory research to explore the potential of the social economy in promoting social inclusion and improving the quality and accessibility of services in rural areas. Empirical data on socio-economic solutions implemented in the local context will be collected from 13 countries. Using a multi-stakeholder approach, SERIGO will provide a more nuanced understanding of the causes of social exclusion. Collaborative workshops and community engagement will ensure that the knowledge generated is relevant and actionable.
