Institute of Information Studies was formed as the independent academic unit in January 2008. It acts as the successor of the Department of Librarianship and Bibliography that was formed at the Tallinn Pedagogical Institute in 1966 and was later named the Department of Information Studies.

Institute educates information specialists on five fully accredited curricula:

Information Science, Bachelor programme

Information Science, Master programme

Information Management, Master programme

Records Management, Master programme

Information Science, PhD programme

Students studying information science acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills for describing, preserving and mediating information, for management of information resources and information retrieval. They will get to know how to analyse information needs and to organize information services. Publishing activity, book and library history and preservation of cultural heritage are also treated. Students will also learn information management in organizations, records management and digital archiving.

Our graduates work as information specialists in information centres, libraries and other memory institutions and as records managers and archivists in public and private institutions.
