Program

10:00-10.30 Registration and welcoming coffee

10.30 - 10.45 Opening words. Speaker: to be announced

10.45 - 11.15 Introduction of the High5 project and Integrated Design. Speaker: Anna Laska-Leśniewicz

ID is a mindset that allows future designers to solve real problems of real people, create innovative solutions and take care of sustainability, our environment and the well-being of future generations. ID encourages to find even simple ideas to existing challenges but always in consideration of sustainable development goals.

11.15-12.00 Presentation of the developed ID materials. Speaker: Aleksandra Jastrzębska

12:00 - 12:30 Experience from the international summer schools. Speakers: Olivier Heidmann & Elisabeth Pereire

12:30 - 13:30 Lunch break (organised)

13.30 - 14.45 1st Workshop session (10-15 participants per workshop, see descriptions below)

  • Integrated Design as a complex attitude to the creation of (sustainable) innovation. Anna Laska-Leśniewicz & Aleksandra Jastrzębska
  • Using Sustainable Development Goals in teaching. Jaanus Terasmaa (in the Estonian language)
  • Brainstorming techniques MIXER. Krzysztof Jastrzębski
  • Gamification. Olivier Heidmann
  • Circular Economy. Elisabeth T. Pereira

Integrated Design is a process that consists of several steps: Discover, Define, Ideate, Implement. While designing, it is necessary to iterate steps and refine the solution. The Implementation step includes prototyping of the solution and testing it with potential users. Results of the ID process are created with the match of human’s needs.

  • Entrepreneurship - Agile Management. Francisco Oliveira
  • Digital tools for ID. Triinu Jesmin (in the Estonian language)

14.45 - 15.00 Coffee break

15.00 - 16.15 2nd workshop session (participant can choose new topic)

16.15 - 17.00 Summary of the day

Workshop descriptions

Integrated Design as a complex attitude to creation of (sustainable) innovation

Anna Laska-Leśniewicz, PhD Eng. (Assistant Professor)
Aleksandra Jastrzębska, PhD Eng. (Researcher)
Lodz University of Technology, Poland

The workshop presents Integrated Design (ID) methodology in a nutshell. The participants will familiarize themselves with ID fundamentals and try some High5 tools that can effectively support any project realization.

Using Sustainable Development Goals in teaching (in Estonian language)

Jaanus Terasmaa, PhD
Professor of Ecohydrology at Tallinn University

Workshop focuses on using the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and set of SDG cards in innovating everyday teaching. SDG cards are a good tool in every stage of integrated design and design thinking methodologies.

Brainstorming techniques MIXER

Krzysztof Jastrzębski, Phd Eng. (Assistant Professor)
Lodz University of Technology, Poland

Brainstorming is commonly treated as an universal key to all the locks but it is NOT TRUE. Brainstorming is rather a set of picklocks that should be wisely selected for the given purpose. That worksop will be an occasion to get acquainted with some ways of generating and evaluating ideas that might be useful not only during Ideation but in general as ways of channeling free flow of creativity.

Gamification

Olivier Heidmann, Project Manager, UTH

This workshop will introduce some simple gamification techniques, discuss the advantages and limits of gamification and explore the different type of available motivation and reinforcement types.

Circular Economy

Elisabeth T. Pereira, PhD
Professor of Economics at DEGEIT, University of Aveiro

Workshop focuses on Circular Economy and its relevance for the sustainability of future generations on Earth. The workshop highlights several important issues in circular economy vs linear economy. Some industry examples and case studies of circular economy are presented. The relationship between Circular Economy and Social Innovation are considered.

Entrepreneurship - Agile Management

Francisco Oliveira, PhD Student of Economics and Management
DEGEIT, University of Aveiro

Open research in groups (with the available means: mobile phones, laptops, tablets...) through practical examples of actions or measures adopted by international companies/brands in which they differentiated themselves in the market, through innovation, design thinking, sustainability.

Digital tools for ID (in the Estonian language)

Triinu Jesmin
Lecturer of Tallinn University

This workshop will introduce several tools that we have developed for problem/project-based, collaborative learning. We will try out tools like ICT-INOV and VIE (Virtual presence in Higher education hybrid learning delivery) and participants will get access to teacher accounts.
