Leif Kalev re-elected as Director of TU Institute of Political Science and Governance

At the TU Institute of Political Science and Governance council meeting
held on October 27, Leif Kalev, the previous Director of the institute and
Associate Professor of State Theory and State Law, was re-elected as
Director.Leif Kalev said that the challenges ahead are somewhat different,
but he is optimistic for the future because previous initiatives have
proven to be very successful. He anticipates that in three years time the
institute will offer all the main competences (administration, political
science, international relations) and also some  additional
competences as well (sociology, justice, economy, psychology). He said that
the key to future success is closer co-operation with both public
authorities and with other academic institutions that are respected in the
field of political science.Leif Kalev has been Associate Professor of State
Theory and State Law and the Director of the Institute of Political Science
and Governance since 2008. He defended his Doctoral thesis entitled
“Multiple and European Union Citizenship as Challenges to Estonian
Citizenship Policies” in 2006. The main areas of his expertise are state
theory and law, and political sociology (citizenship, social capital,
migration). He is also currently working on research projects which focus
on ‘Europeanization in Estonian education policy: a study of adaptation
capacity of political actors' (funded by Estonian Science Foundation) and
also on ‘Mechanisms of Neo-Weberian governance in the transformation of
CIE states from transition phase to stability' (funded by Tallinn
University Research Foundation).His new term of office is for 3 years.
