The Knowledge Transfer and Project Support Office at Tallinn University, together with its partners, offers students a variety of opportunities to develop entrepreneurial thinking and acquire entrepreneurship-related skills and attitudes. One of the most fruitful of these is interdisciplinary project-based courses known as LIFE (Learning in Interdisciplinary Focused Environment) projects.

  • LIFE (Learning in Interdisciplinary Focused Environment) is a group project with clearly defined goals, set deadlines, and tangible outcomes. Each group consists of 6–8 students from at least three different academic disciplines. The course is worth 6 ECTS credits and is graded on a pass/fail basis. Twice a year (in May and December), an idea fair is held to introduce projects that will begin in the following semester. At the idea fair, students can get more detailed information about the projects they are interested in and meet potential future team members.

Pre-incubation programme "Ideas Nest" (LIFE)

Tallinn University ELU's project "Pre-incubation Programme "Idea Nest", is aimed at enthusiastic students who are interested in entrepreneurship, impact entrepreneurship, or entrepreneurship development, but still need basic knowledge and practical experience to develop an idea to the start-up/project stage. The aim of the project is to provide participants with a supportive environment where they can acquire knowledge in the field of (impact) entrepreneurship and apply it to the development of their own or a project partner's idea, which could potentially lead to a start-up company in the future.

Throughout the project, participants will develop innovative ideas through group work, where collaboration with students from different fields will create opportunities for an interdisciplinary and creative approach. The project will also use the principles of co-creation, which brings together expertise and experience from different disciplines and also provides essential support in identifying problems, considering and choosing different solutions, and implementing and evaluating the impact of an innovative solution. Participants will be provided with classic practical tasks in the pre-incubation process, with mentoring from Tallinn University's team, and also external experts in the field of (impact) entrepreneurship.

At the end of the project, students will have the opportunity to present their start-up idea in front of a panel at Tallinn University, and also at a suitable hackathon where it can be considered for further development in a partner organisation's accelerator/incubation programme (with the support of a representative from Tallinn University's EXU team if needed). In addition, project participants will gain invaluable experience in group work, co-creation and innovation (e.g. social) development. Active participation and commitment to group work are key to the successful completion of the project.
