The legal duty of Tallinn University is to promote science and culture and offer the necessary education and research as well as other creative activity based services to the society. As a legal person governed by public law, the university is the proprietor of public information within the whole extent of its activities. Through the public view of our document registry (in Estonian), you may access any electronic documents that haven`t been deemed for internal use only.

As we provide services, we also gather personal data. For example, when you write to us, apply for job or enrol in our university. Your letter/application contains your personal data, which we use to contact you, but we do not forward it to third parties. We process (and also forward) the personal data of our students, employees and other contractual partners only to perform our public duty and to fulfil our contract and the legal obligation imposed on us.

Information containing your personal data that would significantly harm your private life has been declared as information for internal use only and is under restricted access. We organise our work so that your personal life will be disturbed as little as possible. Therefore, we only process the personal data that is necessary for the completion of our aims and provide access to the data only to those university employees who need it to fulfil their contractual obligations.

The university issues documents regardless of access restrictions to those institutions or persons who have a legal right to demand access to relevant document (courts, bailiffs, police officers and other persons with respective competences).

You have the right to access the data that the university has gathered on you and to request the correction of incorrect personal data. In the case that we no longer have legal grounds to process your data, you may also request the limitation on the use and deletion of the data. For this purpose, please submit either a signed or digitally signed application (to the e-mail address tlu@tlu.ee or to the address Tallinna Ülikool, Narva mnt 25, 10120 Tallinn). We will reply to your application as soon as possible but no later than a month after its receipt. The data will be issued either on paper or electronically, according to your preference. Your application may be rejected only in special cases provided for in the law.

When visiting us, please take into account that in order to protect assets and persons on university premises, we use monitoring equipment which is active 24/7. The data is saved for 30 calendar days and you can access it through justifiable interest by sending an application to the e-mail tlu@tlu.ee.

You have the right to turn to the Data Protection Inspectorate or to the court if you find that we have violated your rights when your personal data is processed.
