BFM mixed choir

This guide is intended for all prospective members to understand our philosophy and the commitment required. It also serves as a reminder for our current members of the standards we uphold together.

As a member of the BFM Mixed Choir, you are expected to embrace the following responsibilities:

  • Rehearsals: Consistent participation is mandatory. Our progress is built week by week.
  • When: Mondays and Wednesdays, for 90 minutes each session.
  • Punctuality: Please arrive on time, ready to sing and focus.
  • Performances: We are the official choir of the university. You are required to participate in official university events, such as the university anniversary and graduation ceremonies. Other concerts and events will be scheduled throughout the year.
  • Communication and Accountability: Your presence matters. If you must be absent or late for a rehearsal or an event, you must inform our conductor and artistic director, Raul Talmar, in advance. Unannounced absences are not acceptable.
  • Team Spirit: We support each other to achieve a common goal: to create beautiful music. A positive and collaborative attitude is essential.

Tallinn University BFM Mixed Choir

Founded within the vibrant community of the Baltic Film, Media and Arts School (BFM), our choir brings together students and staff from across the university and beyond. We strive for a high artistic level while fostering a warm and supportive atmosphere. Our repertoire is diverse, ranging from Estonian classics to contemporary works from around the world.

The choir has also taken part of Estonian Song Celebrations and Baltic Students Song Festival “Gaudeamus”.

Our Leaders

Raul Talmar (Conductor and Artistic Director): A highly respected figure in the Estonian choral scene, Raul Talmar has been the conductor for numerous Estonian Song and Dance Celebrations (Laulupidu). He has led many renowned choirs to national and international success and is a recipient of the Order of the White Star for his contributions to Estonian culture.

Karin Salumäe (Vocal Coach): A professional singer and an experienced vocal pedagogue, Karin Salumäe graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. She provides our singers with invaluable guidance on vocal technique, breathing, and expression, ensuring the healthy and beautiful development of our choir's sound.
