FilmMemory deals with the preservation, restoration, analysis and re-use of audiovisual heritage in the context of today's changing screen cultures. The curriculum provides students with a unique opportunity to acquire critical and practical skills in the fields of film preservation, archive management and the future directions of screen media. The program covers both historical film archives and contemporary digital media forms and tools, offering solutions to the challenges and opportunities of digital culture.

This innovative joint master’s degree is delivered by a consortium of four distinguished European Higher Education Institutions (HEIs): LUCA School of Arts (Brussels, Belgium), Lusófona University (Lisbon, Portugal), IADT (Dublin, Ireland), and Tallinn University’s Baltic Film, Media and Arts School (Tallinn, Estonia). The programme’s mobility track ensures that students will gain exposure to diverse film cultures and academic expertise as they move between the four partner institutions during their studies.

The programme focuses on key themes including the analysis of European film cultures, both past and present, exploring how films are archived, preserved, restored, and recirculated. Students will also delve into the social, political, and industrial diversity of film production, distribution, and reception across Europe.

The course is taught in English. The entrance exams are held in two rounds, first an essay is written, then an interview via video link. FilmMemory is aimed at students from all over the world who have a Bachelor's degree (BA) in audiovisual arts, film studies, communication studies, art, history, cultural studies or related disciplines such as archival studies, heritage studies or museology. Other degrees (at least EQF level 6) may be accepted from applicants who submit a convincing application. This year, 24 students will be accepted to the programme, the application deadline is 20 January 2026.
