English language requirement for PhD programmes in History, Linguistics and Studies of Cultures:

EU/EEA citizens

International applicants to whom English is not a native language are required to provide a proof of their English language proficiency. Exceptions are made only for applicants who have completed their previous studies fully in English (attested proof from the previous educational institution required).

One of the following international language test is accepted:
  • IELTS  (International English Language Testing System) Academic or IELTS Online: 7.0 (with a minimum of 7 in each component). A copy of the IELTS test result is accepted as it will be verified online by Tallinn University. Please note that the IELTS test result is valid for 2 years.
  • C1 Advanced (Certificate in Advanced English): 180 (with a minimum of 180 in each component)
  • C2 Proficiency (Certificate of Proficiency in English): 180 (with a minimum of 180 in each component)

    Candidates presenting Cambridge English tests should indicate their ID number and secret number in their application form. The test result is valid for 10 years.

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign language) paper version: 627, internet-based: 95 (with a minimum result of 24 in reading, 22 in listening, 25 in speaking, and 24 in writing component).(Tallinn University Code number is: 0449). The test result has to be sent directly to Tallinn University, by the test centre. It is also possible to order the test results to be sent to Tallinn University online. Please note that TOEFL iBT test score is valid for 2 years.
  • PTE Academic (Pearson test of English): 76 (with a minimum result of 76 in each component). Test result has to be sent to Tallinn University through the secure PTE portal. Test result is valid for two years.

 

Non-EU/EEA citizens
