A Week of Language, Learning and Cultural Exchange at Tallinn University
From September 20 to 26, eight students from the University of Rzeszów had the opportunity to visit Tallinn University in Estonia. We are students of Foreign Language Teaching, specializing in English and Russian, and this study visit was a great opportunity to combine academic learning with cultural experiences and international exchange.
The main aim of our visit was to broaden our knowledge of Russian language and culture, develop our linguistic and communication skills, and learn more about how a university abroad functions on a daily basis. From the very beginning, we were curious to see how studying in another academic environment would compare with our experience at the University of Rzeszów.
During our stay at Tallinn University, we took part in a variety of classes related to Russian studies. We attended lectures and classes devoted to topics such as 19th-century Russian literature, Russian literacy and functional morphology of Russian. These sessions allowed us to look at familiar subjects from a different perspective and gave us an opportunity to use Russian in an academic environment.
An important part of our visit was also presenting our home university. We had the chance to tell students and teachers at Tallinn University more about the University of Rzeszów, our field of study and student life in Poland. It was a great opportunity to exchange experiences and discover both similarities and differences between our universities.
We also participated in a Russian-language discussion club. It was one of the experiences we particularly enjoyed because it gave us the opportunity to communicate in Russian in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. We could share our opinions, discuss different topics and, most importantly, meet other students interested in the Russian language and culture.
We also had the opportunity to explore Tallinn. Walking through the city, discovering its architecture and experiencing its unique atmosphere allowed us to learn more about Estonian culture outside the classroom. Both the university and the city made a very positive impression on us.
Our week in Tallinn was a valuable combination of education, language practice, cultural discovery and meeting new people. We returned to Poland with new knowledge, new experiences and many memories that we will certainly keep for a long time.
We are very grateful to Tallinn University for welcoming us and giving us the opportunity to experience student life in an international academic environment.
