Tallinn Summer Schools: 18 years of fascinating learning journey
This year, we celebrate the 18th anniversary of Tallinn University's Summer School, which has been offering enriching learning experiences since 2006.
Tallinn Summer School is a 3-week programme running in July, combining a wide range of courses with a rich, diverse cultural programme and attracting participants from all over the world. In addition to a variety of social events, participants have the opportunity to visit museums, historical sites, and places of cultural significance, while exploring Estonia’s nature on weekend trips.
In 2024, we welcomed 362 participants from 53 countries, with the largest number coming from Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. We also saw significant participation from Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong.
Every participant has their own story to share about Tallinn Summer School. The most common insight was meeting new friends from all over the world, experiencing various cultures, experiencing great teaching with great teachers and great events, and very interesting and inspiring learning adventures.
We even have families who study together at Tallinn Summer School, like Sofia, Andrey, and Miron. Sofia, a Tallinn University graduate, tutored a course, while her father Andrey improved his Estonian, and her 12-year-old brother Miron learned English. Another family, the Bladosz family, shared a similar experience. Agata and Piotr studied Estonian while their children, Laura and Juliusz, learned English. Agata described the experience as an amazing adventure, praising the staff’s helpfulness, the quality of teaching, and how the programme boosted their children's confidence in speaking a new language.
“We enjoyed absolutely everything, actually it was hard to say ‘goodbye’”, Agatha Bladosz.
In addition to the academic programme, participants had a chance to meet and taste Estonian culture by attending the Estonian food workshop held at the Science Kitchen of the university, joining the trips to Muhu island and Lahemaa National Park and various Tallinn museums.
The overall impression of the Summer School is very positive: participants rated their experience at Tallinn Summer School highly, with a satisfaction score of 9 out of 10, and 99.3% would recommend the programme to friends and colleagues.
We thank all participants, volunteers, professors, and tutors for making this year’s Tallinn Summer School a success. Join us in winter 2025 for more memorable experiences!
