Record amount of foreign students apply for Tallinn University
As of today, 328 applications for admission have been submitted to Tallinn University from foreign countries but the amount will increase even further, since the admissions go on until August 12.
As of today, 328 applications for admission have been submitted to Tallinn University from foreign countries. In 2012 the number of foreign applicants was 277, and in 2011 – 168. The amount will increase even further, since the Finnish admissions for Law School and Institute of Communication go on until August 12.
Currently, most of the foreign applications for Bachelor’s programme in Tallinn University have been submitted for the Audiovisual Media (22), Liberal Arts in Social Sciences (22) and Liberal Arts in Humanities (21) curricula. For Master’s, most of the applications from foreign students have been submitted for the International Relations (23) and Film Arts (16) curricula. For Doctoral Studies, most of the applications are for the Economics and Management of Public Sector curriculum (5).
There is a choice of studying in a foreign language in Tallinn University for 5 curricula in Bachelor’s programme, 12 in Master’s and for all 14 in Doctoral Studies.
In 2012/13, 550 foreign students were enrolled in Tallinn University, which was 5.5% of the entire student body. Most of the foreign students studying in Tallinn University were from the neighbouring countries – Latvia, Finland and Russia. In addition to those, Germany, Spain, Italy and Turkey were also represented a lot. The more exotic countries of origin for Tallinn University students were Nigeria, Cameroon, Armenia, Georgia, South Africa, Singapore, Venezuela and Brazil.
There is a tuition fee in Tallinn University for foreign studies. However, in order to motivate the students of foreign curricula more, Tallinn University applies a new scholarship system. With the new system, tuition fees for up to 20% more of foreign students will decrease.
