Tallinn University Hosted Rectors from Ukrainian Universities
On 23 September, Tallinn University welcomed a delegation of Ukrainian university rectors and higher education experts visiting Estonia to learn about university governance, funding and strategic planning, and to explore opportunities for further cooperation between Estonian and Ukrainian universities. At Tallinn University, the guests were hosted by Rector Priit Reiska, Head of the Strategy Office Mikk Kasesalk, and Maarja Lehtsaar, Chief Specialist for Educational Development at the Centre for Learning and Teaching.

During the meeting at Tallinn University, the guests were introduced to the university, its governance model and strategic planning, as well as curriculum development and the activities of the Study Programme Lab. The discussions focused in greater depth on university management and leadership, decision-making processes, and the implementation of strategic objectives. The guests also took part in a campus tour, during which Mati Mõttus introduced them to digital solutions at the User Experience Lab.
The visit to Tallinn University was part of a multi-day visit to Estonia by the Ukrainian higher education delegation, including visits to universities and joint seminars in Tallinn and Tartu. The meetings provide an opportunity to exchange experiences on the development of higher education in Estonia and Ukraine and to discuss cooperation among universities and their engagement with the state. One of the aims of the visit is to shape areas of cooperation between Estonian and Ukrainian universities for 2026–2028.
The Ukrainian delegation visiting Tallinn University included Roman Hryshchuk, Member of the Parliament of Ukraine; Valentyna Yakubiv, Rector of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University; Vadym Tkachuk, Rector of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine; Galina Shilo, Rector of Zaporizhzhia National University; Tetyana Shtal, Rector of Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics; and Svitlana Kalashnikova, Adviser at the Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine.
Cooperation with Ukraine has been one of Tallinn University’s internationalisation priorities, with the university working with Ukrainian partners in teaching and research as well as through student and staff exchanges. In 2026, Tallinn University also joined the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies to strengthen Ukraine-related teaching and research cooperation and partnerships with Ukrainian universities.
