Tallinn University Joins Global Coalition for Ukrainian Studies
On 9 June, First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska and Sirje Karis, spouse of the President of the Republic of Estonia, attended the signing ceremony of cooperation memoranda between Estonian higher education institutions and the Global Coalition for Ukrainian Studies at Tallinn University. The participating institutions aim to strengthen the study of Ukraine’s history, culture, language, literature and society, as well as to further develop international academic cooperation in Ukrainian studies.
The Global Coalition for Ukrainian Studies is an initiative launched in 2024 under the leadership of Olena Zelenska. Its aim is to promote Ukrainian studies and strengthen international cooperation in education and research.
In her remarks at the signing ceremony, Tallinn University Rector Priit Reiska said that joining the memorandum will help the University further develop its existing academic and research cooperation related to Ukraine in a more systematic way. “Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Tallinn University has worked to make the University more accessible to Ukrainian students, including through more flexible admission requirements and additional support measures. We are proud that Ukrainian students and researchers are part of our academic community,” Reiska said.

Tallinn University’s teaching and research activities cover topics related to Ukrainian society, culture, literature, memory, language and education. The University has long-standing academic partnerships with Ukrainian institutions, including student and staff exchanges as well as cooperation in teaching and research.
In September 2025, a Tallinn University delegation led by the Rector visited partner universities in Kyiv and Zhytomyr. In March 2026, a delegation from the School of Humanities visited partners in Kyiv and Lviv. The University also maintains active Erasmus+ mobility partnerships with Ukrainian universities and has launched several joint projects.
Joining the memorandum provides an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation with Ukrainian partner universities and to jointly develop teaching and research on Ukraine, mobility schemes and institutional partnerships.
