Tallinn University scientists will be supported in project writing by Julii Selianko and Mahendra Mahey
A new senior research and development adviser Mahendra Mahey has joined Tallinn University project support team. He will work jointly with Julii Selianko to support, advise, and write research projects.
Senior advisor Mahendra Mahey has over 30 years of experience in creating, leading, managing, and advising hundreds of UK, EU, and internationally funded projects, programs, and services in research and digital educational technologies. He is also experienced in collaborating with researchers, educators, artists, entrepreneurs, community groups, and activists.
For the last nine years, Mahendra has built and managed the pioneering British Library Labs, which encouraged people to experiment with digitised Cultural Heritage Data (such as books, newspapers, maps, manuscripts, web archives, sound and TV recordings). Previously, he established and expanded the global Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAM) Labs network and several other international communities in academia. Mahendra also has extensive expertise in research management information systems, research data, social sciences, and communicating to various groups by creating innovative meeting spaces and events, both physically and online.
Julii Selianko joined the Tallinn University team in 2019. Julii has over 12 years of experience in the EU grant writing full circle – from idea to consortium building, budget negotiations, and eventually successful submission.
Julii has designed and gradually introduced the TLU's pre-award project support service that includes the 'FivePage' collection rounds. He has submitted 40 proposals in the last two years (incl. Horizon Europe RIAs, CSAs, ERCs and MSCAs). In addition, he periodically analyses the EU strategic priorities, ERA policy documents, Work Programmes, and briefs the research groups on the calls' political backgrounds and relevant strategies. He has delivered tailor-made training to research teams, proactively informed on funding opportunities, and helped in strategic partner searches. Julii is also consulting on post-award issues and leading the WP on Research Management capacity building. He collaborates with the EU officials and spreads best practices via professional networking and staff exchanges (EARMA and ERA-Fellowship).
