From Student to Legal Researcher

Tallinn University alumna Laura Reinberg shares how the English-language Law programme helped shape her academic journey and professional interests.

Choosing where to study law is about much more than earning a degree. It is about finding an environment that challenges you, broadens your perspective and prepares you for a rapidly changing legal world.

Laura's path to Tallinn University was already international. After spending a year studying law in the Netherlands, she wanted to continue her legal education in an international environment while returning closer to home.

"Tallinn University offered a strong balance between an English-taught programme and a setting close to home, while still maintaining a global perspective in legal education."

Learning to Ask Better Questions

For Laura, one of the most valuable outcomes of the programme was learning to approach law through research and critical thinking rather than searching for straightforward answers.

"The programme has trained me to think less in terms of 'answers' and more in terms of 'questions worth asking'. It strengthened my ability to identify relevant research questions, analyse legal materials and build coherent, well-supported legal arguments across different areas of law."

This research-oriented mindset continues to support her professional development today.

Growth Beyond the Classroom

Studying law also meant stepping outside her comfort zone. According to Laura, practical experiences, discussions and taking initiative were just as important as academic knowledge. These experiences helped her discover the legal fields that interest her most while reinforcing an important lesson:

Building Skills for the Future

During her studies, Laura developed strong organisational and leadership skills by balancing multiple responsibilities and supporting fellow students in developing legal argumentation and advocacy skills.

These experiences prepared her for collaborative legal work where analytical thinking, communication and teamwork are equally important.

Law Meets Technology

"For me, the core question is not just how to regulate innovation, but how to keep law both stable and adaptable at the same time."

One of Laura's strongest academic interests lies at the intersection of law, technology and sustainability.

In her conference paper on AI-based forest monitoring under the EU Deforestation Regulation, she explored how technological innovation can support compliance and transparency in forest supply chains, while recognising that human oversight remains indispensable.

Looking Ahead

Today, Laura's interests include mergers and acquisitions (M&A), environmental law, artificial intelligence and corporate regulation. She is particularly interested in how legal frameworks can keep pace with rapidly evolving technologies while remaining clear, effective and enforceable.

Her journey demonstrates how a strong legal education provides more than legal knowledge, it develops critical thinking, curiosity and the confidence to navigate an increasingly complex world.

We are proud to see our graduates shaping the future of law and wish Laura every success in the exciting career ahead.
