Tallinn University Mooting Society Hosted Annual Speed Moot Competition
On 20-23 April 2026, the Tallinn University Mooting Society held its annual Speed Moot Competition, bringing together Law students for a fast-paced and challenging mooting experience.
This year’s case, Helios Dynamics GmbH v Aurora Orbital Analytics AS, concerned a commercial dispute involving the sale of electric propulsion modules for small satellites. The case raised issues of force majeure, contractual performance, and liability in an international sales context, requiring students to engage with both factual complexity and legal argumentation under significant time pressure.
The preliminary rounds took place on 20 April and were judged by Dr Karolina Aksamitowska, Emilia Celina Miller, Professor Walter Rech, and Faisal Mohammed Moniruzzaman. After the preliminary rounds, the two strongest teams of law students advanced to the final round, held on 23 April.
The final was judged by an excellent panel consisting of Triinu Hiob, Partner at NJORD Law Firm and an experienced arbitrator under various institutional arbitration rules; Dr Karolina Aksamitowska, Lecturer of International Law at Tallinn University, who has extensive experience with international moot court competitions and has coached moot teams; and Emilia Celina Miller, assistant coach of this year’s TLU Vis Moot team and the President of the Mooting Society. Their involvement made the final especially valuable for the participating students, offering them the opportunity to receive feedback from experienced professionals and academics.
The finalists were Daryna Kyrylash, Ilaha Huseynli, Maël Doré Prin, and Anila Nawar. After a strong final round, Maël Doré Prin and Anila Nawar were announced as the winners of this year’s competition. The Best Speaker award was presented to Anila Nawar.
The final round was of a very high standard, particularly considering the short preparation time typical of a speed moot. The participants demonstrated impressive legal knowledge, strong advocacy skills, and the ability to respond thoughtfully under pressure.
The Tallinn University Mooting Society would like to sincerely thank all participants, judges, organisers, and everyone who helped make this year’s Speed Moot Competition a success.
