The objective of the competition was to provide participants with an opportunity to practice legal negotiation skills in an international context. This year’s topic focused on Article VI of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) – a cornerstone of global disarmament efforts. Students represented various countries in simulated delegations and were tasked with finding common ground, balancing national interests, and pursuing diplomatic solutions to the pressing issue of nuclear disarmament.

After several rounds of intense discussions, strategic concessions, and drafting sessions, the finalist teams of the 2025 Treaty Negotiation Competition were:

  • Ilanit Stern and Anila Nawar
  • Tapio Nissi and Mitchell Curtis
  • Jaana-Maria Froš and Olena Tsybulko

The winners of the Competition are Ilanit Stern and Anila Nawar, whose strong teamwork, persuasive argumentation, and balanced negotiation approach secured them the victory.

The competition was expertly organised by third year Law students at Tallinn University - Emilia Celina Miller and Laura Taklaja. It was evaluated by a distinguished panel of international law professors and lecturers in international relations as well as the representative of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign affairs Päivi Margna.

The Treaty Negotiation Competition not only tested participants’ legal and diplomatic reasoning but also highlighted the importance of cooperation and communication in resolving complex international issues. The Mooting Society extends its gratitude to all participants, evaluators, and organisers who made this intellectually rich event possible.
