Tallinn University Expands International Cooperation in Ghana with the University of Education, Winneba

The delegation from University of Education, Winneba was led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Prof. Benjamin Ghansah (Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Science Education) and Prof. Enoch Frederick Sam (Director of the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development (DRID). During the joint meeting attended by some representatives of the Tallinn University, the Rector (TLU) and the Vice-Chancellor (UEW), discussed opportunities for strengthening institutional collaboration and developing activities that would bring mutual benefits to both Universities.

Given UEW’s strong focus on teacher education, the discussion identified several promising areas for future cooperation. These included science and mathematics education, teacher capacity development, joint project application, as well as well as staff and student exchanges.

Institutional parties present at the meeting agreed to continue discussions to develop these initial ideas into more concrete forms for action. The Tallinn University staff members associated with this emerging Ghana cooperation initiative are (Mart Laanpere, Hans Põldoja, James Sunney Quaicoe and Anete Elken).
The visit represents another step in Tallinn University’s efforts to strengthen its international partnership and expand academic cooperation with institutions in Ghana and wider Africa region. Meanwhile, TLU and UEW have in the past participated in the GOT Project, which was led by Terje Väjataga, the visit there opens doors for formal cooperation activities.

Following the productive discussions, the UEW delegation returned to Ghana with both institutions looking forward to advancing the areas of cooperation identified during the visit.
