iCal calendarOne of the ways to document reality and lived experience is through poetry. Poetry sets no boundaries in regards to length, complexity, symbolic weight or in-between-the-lines meanings. But it should be honest. Capturing the horrifying experience of the war can prove to be an enormous task both for a poet and a reader but the war has many faces, so does the war poetry. It can open up new perspectives of looking at Ukrainian history and culture, it can put a start to re-thinking social and cultural mainstream narratives or nourish a long postponed wish to delve into Ukrainian literature. We exist as long as we remember, and even though poetry can push some buttons on painful experiences of either past or present, it can more importantly re-activate our ability to remember and create some new memory patterns.
We are pleased to invite you to spend an afternoon with the prominent Ukrainian authors to read poetry and discuss all the ways we remember and how Ukrainian poetry copes with the task of being a witness to Ukrainian experience over the last few decades.
The reading and discussion is moderated by Aija Sakova and Yana Sinitsyna.
