Introduction

The Rector of Tallinn University, Professor Tõnu Viik, has studied philosophy at Moscow State University and as a doctoral student at Emory University in Atlanta, the University of Helsinki, Marburg University in Germany, and Humboldt University in Berlin. He defended his dissertation, Hegel’s Philosophy of Culture, in 2003, and his academic work has been dedicated to researching meaning-formation processes influenced by culture. In addition to his work as a philosophy lecturer, Tõnu Viik has led the Estonian Institute of Humanities and the School of Humanities at Tallinn University. Since 2021, he has served as the Rector of Tallinn University.
