Doctoral studies differ significantly from previous degree programs. The strategies that helped you succeed in your bachelor's or master's studies may not work the same way when it comes to conducting research and writing a dissertation. Research requires long-term planning, discipline, and the ability to navigate the academic system.

To help newly enrolled doctoral candidates get settled, we're holding an informational session that will cover key topics for a successful start. We will discuss:

  • Individual Study and Research Plan: How and where to create a study and research plan for both your first year and the entire study period. We will also cover the principles of creating this plan and how it relates to your attestation.
  • Workload and Status: What should you consider regarding the workload and obligations associated with different statuses, such as junior research fellow, doctoral student, and knowledge transfer doctoral fellow?
  • Funding and Support: What mobility grants are available both inside and outside the university?
  • Doctoral Schools and Collaboration: What is the joint Estonian universities' doctoral school for and how can it support your studies?

We invite all starting doctoral candidates to join our informational session on Thursday, September 3rd, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at A-046

Please register HERE no later than September 2nd, 2026. In the registration form, you can also note any topics or questions you'd like us to address. This will allow us to tailor the content of the event to your specific needs.
