TLU School of Humanities launched the DIGHT-Hub for Digital Cultural Heritage Research
On 1 December 2025, Tallinn University’s School of Humanities officially launched the DIGHT-Hub, an international research and training environment for advancing digital cultural heritage studies. The Hub was established under the Horizon Europe Twinning project DIGHT-Net, aiming to strengthen TLU’s research capacity, international collaboration, and visibility in the field of digital cultural heritage.
Through the establishment of the Hub, TLU aims to develop and enhance digital cultural heritage research at both national and international levels, ensure sustainability in the field, and maximize scientific impact. The project includes the creation of a prototype digital archive of Juri Lotman and Zara Mints, as well as the development of a semiotic theory of digital cultural heritage derived from Lotman, Eco, and other scholars’ works.
To achieve these goals, the DIGHT-Hub collaborates closely with the University of Bologna, University of Amsterdam, and University of Turku. The partners’ expertise in archival studies, cultural heritage, digital culture, and memory research provides TLU with excellent opportunities to advance research in the field to a world-class level, increase visibility in European research competitions, and make a long-term contribution to the preservation and study of European cultural heritage in the digital era.
The launch event featured welcome speeches, a presentation of the DIGHT-Hub, and an international panel discussion on “Digital Cultural Heritage in Transition: Challenges, Opportunities, Perspectives”.
