Introduction

Rūta Bruževica is a graduate of the University of Latvia with a focus on medieval craft history and the medieval Hanse in the Baltics. In her PhD project, Rūta is researching the craft organisations of medieval Riga and Tallinn, focusing on their role as spaces of sociability for artisans. As a junior research fellow, she is part of the “Digital Livonia” project team and contributes with her work of comprehensively digitalising and transcribing the medieval craft statutes of Riga and Tallinn. In her work, Rūta implements digital history tools to enrich source analysis through corpus analysis and text encoding as well as she is training a handwritten text recognition model for texts of Medieval Livonia.
