In university rankings, we are ranked 5% among the top universities in the world in both THE and QS rankings.

Way to the top

Today Tallinn University celebrates its 15th birthday. On 18th March, 2005, an amendment came into force that replaced “Tallinn Pedagogical University” with “Tallinn University”. However, this was not just a matter of name change - the birth of Tallinn University is the largest merger project in Estonian higher education field. Nevertheless the 15th birthday, we still carry a title for educating teachers for more than 100 years, since our roots come from the pedagogical university.

In these 15 years, Tallinn University has made leaps and bounds in research and international rankings and has risen to be among top of the world. According to Times Higher Education and QS World Rankings, we rank among 5% top universities. Our best fields of study are the arts and humanities, social sciences and education. The latest Times Higher Education ranking placed us among 201-250 in Emerging Economy Ranking and QS World Ranking placed Tallinn University 71st in the Emerging Europe and Central Asia University Rankings category. More about TLU's rankings

As a birthday present, TLU’s three rectors Mati Heidmets, Rein Raud and Tiit Land made an interview together. Three rectors with one consent appreciate the decision of establishing Tallinn University. See the whole interviev.

The key to the university's success is, above all, active and successful applications of international research projects, but also international work, study environment and ambitious goals. 7000 students study here and 13% of them are from abroad. The proportion of foreign lecturers is the same. Out of 116 curricula, 96 are in Estonian and 20 in English.

On 1st September 2019, we confirmed a new academic career model. Due to this, we are creating 55 new academic tenure professor positions over the next five years. 29 positions are chosen through public competition and 26 by the certification of existing professors of our own.
