The 6th Annual Juri Lotman Days in Tallinn University take place 30 May to 1 June 2014. Traditionally, the central event will be the international semiotics conference developing the researcher legacy of Juri Lotman. This year, the conference focuses on the semiotics of telling biographies, autobiographies and tales of other’s selves. The keynote speaker is Professor Rainer Grübel (University of Oldenburg), whose presentation “Bene scriber vitam” will open the conference on 30 May at 10.15 a.m. in room M-218 (Uus-Sadama 5).
A plenary session devoted to the Russian historical and civil rights society Memorial will take place on the second day of the conference (in Russian), starting at 9.30 a.m. in room M-218. Members of the society, Arseni Roginski, Alexander Cherkassov, Nikolai Petrov, Irina Fliege and Alexander Daniel will introduce their research projects that look into the lives of Chekists, Gulag prisoners and victims of the North Caucasian armed conflicts. Several conference panels will be analysing the massive publishing project Russian Writers, taken on in Russia.
The author concert of Mikhail Malevich, one of the favourite composers of both, Juri Lotman and Zara Mints, will take place on 31 May at 5.30 p.m. in room T-324. On 1 June, everyone has the chance to meet with the writer Maya Kucherskaya (at 5.30 p.m. in room M-218) – the event will be held in Russian.

The conference and all the events are open for everyone and free of charge – you are all most welcome.
