At the Ministry of Culture of Estonia, AISS students presented work with significant impact potential to stakeholders

Students in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Programme (EMJM) in Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Societies (AISS) at Tallinn University presented their projects, which were developed in collaboration with public sector partners.

AISS programme

The four projects aimed to provide data-informed, socially impactful, and solution-oriented insights into real problems faced by society in Estonia.

  • Team AISS AISS Baby tackled the social challenge of Adaptation & Integration by analysing the first 90 days of a foreign student in Estonia, specifically the challenges of navigating administrative and bureaucratic procedures related to healthcare, personal identification, and various institutions. Their analysis and proposed solutions were very well received by the Ministry of Culture representative.
  • Team AISS Spice tackled the Waste Management in the Textile/Fast Fashion industry by looking into the practices and challenges of Uuskasutuskeskus and Humana - the two biggest textile retailers in Estonia. The project offered several solutions for the main problems of the stakeholders.
  • Team Honey Badgers addressed food waste and its causes within the broader context of Waste Management. They found that implementing policy changes to tackle household waste would be highly effective.
  • Team Three MuskTECHteers investigated the challenges of Adaptation & Integration in the healthcare sector. They discovered significant gaps in the Estonian healthcare system, particularly for foreign students residing in the country for short periods (3 to 6 months). Implementing their solutions would be highly beneficial for short-term residents.

The AISS programme is delivered jointly by three universities: Tallinn University, School of Digital Technologies, Tampere University, Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences, and Lusófona University, Department of Computer Engineering and Information Systems at the University Lusófona (Porto University Centre).
