The improvement in Tallinn University's position in the QS rankings is primarily due to two important factors: Around 10% increase in TLU's scientific publications and their citation rate, and a contribution to sustainability. "Our goal is to do research on an international level that helps develop Estonian society. If strategic activities that are important for us also lead to an improvement in our position in international comparisons, this is pleasant added value," said Mikk Kasesalk, Strategy Manager at Tallinn University.

The university's contribution to sustainable development is also reflected in the results of the QS university ranking. According to Kasesalk, the university has invested in reducing the energy consumption and carbon footprint of the campus in line with its strategic goals, and has promoted other themes such as equal treatment, health and well-being, and sustainability-related knowledge transfer and its impact on education.

Tallinn University appreciates the role of international rankings, especially in increasing visibility and credibility. "A place in the rankings encourages international cooperation and adds credibility in establishing new collaborations," Kasesalk said. At the same time, he pointed out that a number of important dimensions - such as the social impact of the university and the quality of education - are not included in the ranking methodology.

"It is important for Tallinn University to be a high level research university by international standards and a promoter of intelligent lifestyle, and if the fulfilment of the goals that are important for us is accompanied by a high position in international rankings, this is great added value," Kasesalk added.
