RPL applications are assessed individually. The application as well as additional submitted materials are assessed; if necessary, an interview may be conducted with the applicant, he/she may be given an extra task, asked for additional materials, etc.

What is the assessment of applications based on?
  • Prior experience and learning that stems from it, as stated in the application, have a logical connection with the content and learning outcomes of the course/module applied for.
  • Prior experience and the analysis of the learning gained from the experience proves that the student has acquired all the learning outcomes.
  • Application forms have been completed in a correct manner; added documents are authentic and prove the acquisition of all learning outcomes.
Who assesses applications?
  • For admissions, applications are assessed by the Head of Curriculum, Head of Studies if necessary, a lecturer or another representative of the unit.
  • Recognition of previous formal studies at the same study level is decided by the Head of Curriculum (in case of languages: Head of the Language Centre / Head of the Division of Estonian)
  • Recognition of previous formal studies at the preceding level of study, learning from non-formal and informal education is decided by a body of experts who may involve the Head of Curriculum, Head of Studies or the lecturer of a particular course if necessary.
How long does the assessment take?

The assessment decision is made within 30 days of registering the application (if the originals of proof-providing documents have also been submitted). Applications submitted at the start of a semester that contain courses beginning the same semester are reviewed faster. The applicant receives feedback and it is possible to contest the decision.
