Breaking the Chains of “No”, Embracing the Symphony of Communication

In a tale of personal growth and unexpected discoveries, I, Maliheh, embarked on a life-changing journey that led me from my career as a project coordinator in a Dam Construction Project in Iran to the vibrant city of Tallinn, Estonia. It was a bold decision, 16 years after graduating from my bachelor studies in Power Engineering, to pursue a new path and explore the realm of effective communication.

Arriving in Estonia, a mix of excitement and apprehension filled my heart as I bid farewell to the familiar territory of engineering and took a leap of faith into the Master's Programme in Communication Management. I did not know that this decision would open up a whole world of possibilities for me and ignite a passion in me that had long been dormant.

Immersing myself in the program, I soon realized that effective communication held the key to making a lasting impact in any field. Each course I undertook broadened my horizons, teaching me the art of crafting compelling messages, engaging diverse audiences, and building meaningful connections. With each lesson, my confidence grew, and I became more determined to effect change through the power of communication. 

With newfound confidence, I began to see the programme's teachings as the building blocks of my effectiveness as an individual. Armed with the knowledge of how to construct compelling messages, engage diverse audiences, and navigate the complexities of communication in a globalized world, I felt empowered to make a difference. I discovered that doors I never dreamed possible began to swing open before me. Recognizing my dedication, the Iranian supportive organization in Estonia appointed me as their spokesperson—an incredible honor that led me to advocate for the rights of my people in the esteemed halls of the Estonian Parliament. Through effective communication, I had the opportunity to shed light on the challenges faced by Iranians, share their stories, and work towards creating a more inclusive society.

However, my journey did not stop there. Balancing the demands of work, study, and motherhood added an extra layer of complexity to my path. Juggling a full-time job, the rigors of academia, and being a loving mother to my precious child challenged me in ways I had never imagined. Yet, fueled by my passion for growth and driven by unwavering determination, I found the strength to persevere. Every day became a delicate dance of time management and prioritization. Embracing early mornings and late nights, I devoted myself to my studies, fulfilled my professional responsibilities, and cherished every precious moment with my child. It was not always easy, but the reward of personal growth and the knowledge that I was setting a powerful example for my little one fueled my resolve.

Reflecting on my journey fills me with gratitude for the opportunities that have come my way. The Master's Programme in Communication Management equipped me not only with the tools to succeed but also empowered me to find my voice and embrace my role as a social activist. Estonia has become a place where I can freely express my ideas, advocate for change, and contribute to building a more inclusive society. I have come to realize that life is a beautiful tapestry of experiences and that our true potential lies in embracing new horizons. It is a testament to the transformative power of stepping out of our comfort zones and embracing the unknown. With determination, resilience, and effective communication, we can overcome any challenge and unlock the doors to a future filled with purpose and fulfillment.

In my story, I have learned not to accept “no” as an answer. I have discovered the strength within me to push past obstacles and pave my own path.
