This international conference on the history of the town, Modus Vivendi
III: “A View of the City during the 17th - 19th Centuries” brings
together Art historians from Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Czech
Republic, Poland, Latvia, Russia and Estonia. As in previous conferences of
Modus Vivendi, the main theme of the conference is the history of the town,
but this year’s conference will concentrate on visual materials. One
comparison will be the way the town has been pictured from the 17th century
until the development of urban photography in the 19th century. The history
of urban photography has received very little attention in Estonia and one
of the aims of this conference is to bring a sharp focus to this field
of study. The conference will take place in Tallinn at KUMU Art Museum
(Weizenbergi 34/ Valge 1), October 4-5, 2010. The conference will be held
in English and German. The conference is arranged by the TU Institute of
Fine Arts, TU Institute of History, Estonian History Museum, Estonian
Art Museum, Tallinn City Archives, Tallinn Cultural Heritage Department and
the Estonian
Cultural Foundation.        &n
