Every year, Sleepwalkers strives to be a journey of discovery that allows film fans to experience some of the most exciting and cutting edge cinema available. Short films have allowed filmmakers to explore the boundaries of cinema’s limits and we will show you films that are playful, experimental, inventive and thought–provoking. From award winners to movies from brand new talents. Sleepwalkers offers something for everyone.

The festival will stay true to its roots of championing student cinema as it opens with a screening of Lost In Bosnia, a new film from the students of film.factory, the Sarajevo based film school founded by renowned filmmaker Béla Tarr. This collection of shorts directed by 11 filmmakers is a cinematic poem dedicated to films and filmmaking.

The four competitions offers a wide diversity of films from new talents to established filmmakers. We have a number of award-winners amongst the selections with the 2014 Oscar winner for Best Live Action Short and prize winners from Venice, Edinburgh and Encounters all represented. There are also plenty of new discoveries amongst the films, providing a rich cinematic feast for everyone no matter their tastes.

This year’s film school retrospective is the Polish National Film School in Łódź and it’s an honour for us to show films from the likes of Krzysztof Kieślowski and Roman Polanski as well as films from a new generation of Polish filmmakers. Our country focus will be Croatia, a place that has had a burgeoning reputation for shorts over the past few years.

The Night Cinema returns – along with the famed Vitamin Pills – and we’ll have many more surprises along the way.

Welcome back Sleepwalkers. We’ve missed you. Now let’s catch up on some of the best shorts in the world.
