Michael Glowogger's “Workingman's Death”

Austrian director Michael Glowogger weaves together six chapters from the
everyday life of the invisible. The conditions under which these souls
without history earn their daily bread should make any one of us stop and
wonder. But while the experience of Workingman's Death is rich in visual
material, there is at the same time a gnawing feeling of voyeuristic
objectification of these workers. It's as if the leisure classes were
sitting back and whimsically beholding their house servants sweating away
at domestic tasks.
