Director Tormi Torop won first prize at the student film category at the Nikon European Film Festival with his short film “Diamondjaw”. Tormi Torop created his film as part of a course during his freshman year at BFM.

“A coursemate sent his film in and proposed I do the same. I happened to have a film that matched the terms for this competition, so I gave it a go,” explained Torop. “I am very happy for the result! This was the first film I made under the supervision of Elen Lotman, and it will definitely not be the last. The victory is not only mine, but belongs to the whole team,” he added.

The theme of the festival was “Everyday moments,” and the maximum length was 140 seconds. The festival received 550 films from across Europe. Five prizes were awarded: the Grand Prix, an award for Technical Excellence, an award for Best Narrative, an award for Best Student Film, and the Public Vote prize.
