The Tallinn University Baltic Film and Media School (BFM) Crossmedia MA students’ projects “Melchior” and “Nullpunkt” were selected for Cross Video Days to be held in Paris on 18-19 June.

Students from the BFM - Hannes Sarv, Barbara Kaminska-Napora, Andrey Kulpin and Alessandro Nani - developed the Melchior trans-media project. It consists of multiple platforms and elements that the audience will have access to over a period of time. The main platforms involved in the project are the feature film and TV series to be produced by Exitfilm. The main character is an apothecary living in the first half of the 15th century in Tallinn – the sharp-minded apothecary Melchior, who has his own pharmacy and who is able to solve mysteries that others are unable to solve. The storyline was initiated with the series of books published by the Estonian author, Indrek Hargla, and BFM's students are responsible for the development of trans-media extensions. The cornerstone for the trans-media extensions of the Melchior stories is Tallinn Old Town itself. With the help of Melchior, the audience will be able to explore the history of Tallinn. The trans-media project involves games, a real pharmacy, webisodes, mobisodes, but moreover, an interactive location-based application.

Further information about the project is available here.

“Nullpunkt” is a project created by Dagmar Mäe and Tõnis Vassar. It is based on a novel written by a young Estonian author, Margus Karu, in 2010. The story is about a 17-year-old teenager, Johannes and his struggles to define his role in society. Besides the book, the “Nullpunkt” story world consists of a feature film, to be produced by Allfilm, and our students are responsible for the Nullpunkt trans-media experience. The trans-media experience involves several different elements, such as an alternate reality game, book crossing, video-blog, user-generated content and a TV mini series.
